Manomio, one of the leading developers for porting classic titles to the iOS, is making the iPhone and iPad a hub for classic games. Manomio latest gift to iOS gamers is the classic Defender Of The Crown, this title was originally released in 1986 on the Commodore Amiga by Cinemaware.

The game is set in 1149, after the king’s assassination and no heir to the throne, leaving England in utter chaos. Encouraged by Robin of Locksley, you assemble a Saxon army and set off to defeat your Norman rivals and conquer the land.

Cinemaware gave you four characters to choose from, each with different strengths and weaknesses. The title also varies up the gameplay with different events to try and keep the game fresh. which is interesting considering the title is 25 years old. You can choose to conquer a kingdom, raid an enemy’s castle, build up your army, or scout enemy territories for a future attack, or event hold a jousting tournament.

Following on from the success of Manomio’s C64 emulator on iPhone, the retro-loving developer is turning its attention to another Commodore classic. This time its the Amiga 500: the off-white powerhouse that holds a place in the heart of many a Brit.

The company showed off iAmiga to our beloved rivals at Touch Arcade, who described the app’s retro representation as having “accurate sound, flawless graphics, glass smooth animation” on iPhone 4, albeit it with a few glitches and bugs at the moment.

It comes with different control methods, letting you switch between keyboard, mouse, and joystick on the fly.

The company has already struck a deal with Cinemaware, so you can expect games like Defender of the Crown, It Came from the Desert, and Wings to appear. It’s now in licensing discussions with other fan-favourite Amiga developers like The Bitmap Brothers, Magnetic Fields, Cope-Com, Archer MacLean, and Turrican maker Factor 5.

For quite some time now we have been tracking Manomio’s upcoming iAmiga emulation system for iOS, designed as a sort of wrapper or delivery vehicle to bring licensed Amiga games to the App Store. At the end of last year, we posted an exclusive preview of the in-development system, including a demo video showing a number of classic test titles running quite well on an iPhone 4. One of the titles we played with back then was Cinemaware’s classic 1986 strategy game, Defender of the Crown. I’m happy to report that this well-loved, fully-licensed title will be the first iAmiga-powered game to land in the App Store, and that Manomio CEO Stuart Carnie was kind enough to grant us exclusive access to a near-release build of the game.

Hello and welcome, Cinemaware fans, to the new official Cinemaware website. As many of our fans know, Cinemaware has been inactive for a number of years, with no new product announcements. We heard the frustrated calls of our fans and are ready to get back to making games with the high caliber of graphics, sound, gameplay and presentation polish that made us famous, and we want you to be an essential part of it!

That’s why we’ve made the new Cinemaware.com a place where our fans can gather to discuss not just our past titles, but the ones we’re planning to release in the not-too-distant future as well. We want you to collaborate with us on the creation of the next great Cinemaware games, and here on the site you’ll have an opportunity to do just that. This is also where you’ll find a whole array of resources dedicated to the games that put us on the map, including classic soundtracks, art and even the games themselves, playable free-of-charge in popular retro emulators. Plus, since we know our fans love to show their loyalty whenever possible, a new range of Cinemaware goods will soon be available from the site’s CinemaWEAR store which is currently being planned.

Most excitingly, right here on the site is where you’ll soon be able to play a selection of Game Featurettes – classic mini-games from our retro catalog rebuilt for the web, along with new ones inspired by our biggest hits.

There’s a lot more to come, too, as Cinemaware moves forward with multiple projects for the web, tablet and mobile platforms, so stay tuned … as our fans’ dedication to our legacy will be essential for the exciting future we are building around the Cinemaware brand. Thanks for being a part of the new Cinemaware.com and we look forward to seeing you on our site often!

We thank all our fans for their great support,
The Cinemaware Team
